Shellfish Season is Open

2008 October 13

The shellfish season opened up about a month ago, and Jeff and Stephen have been harvesting some beautiful cherry-stone clams.  There is just starting to be a bit of a demand for oysters, and they are looking good so far.  The water temp in the Charleston Harbor is at 73 degrees right now, and with the NE wind we’ve been having, it should cool down below 70 pretty quickly.  That means the oysters are starting to fill out there shells a bit more.  The seemingly unending rain we’ve had the past few days has had no effect on the water quality according to DHEC (one bright side of a drought).
