About Us

They that go down to the sea in in ships, that do business in great waters.  These see the works of the lord and his wonders in the deep.  -Psalm 107

Lowcountry Catch was started in Fall of 2008 by Will McNelis.  Will has been a commercial fisherman in the Charleston, SC area for 10 years, mainly as an oysterman.  He works with his brother-in-law, Jeff.  Will and Jeff are closely tied to the commercial fishing communities in Awendaw, McClellanville, and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, the area we know as “the lowcountry”.  Will also runs McNelis Media, a web design business.

The commercial fishing industries in this area (mainly shrimping, oystering, and clamming) have been on the wane for the past 20 years.  Development is encroaching and bringing with it all of its problems, but the main enemy of South Carolina commercial fishing is imported seafood.  Why people would want to eat shrimp caught in Thailand and shipped around the world while locals are going out of business is way beyond us.

Lowcountry Catch began as a way to get fresh, local seafood from the South Carolina Lowcountry to the seafood eaters.  We want to build a brand and have people care about what they are eating in restaurants as well as their homes.  We want them to ask for demand to only be served local seafood.  Support your local commercial seafood industries.  Eat well and live well.
